Director Marc Bruni and music director Rob Berman join forces for Pipe Dream, the second production of the 2011-12 City Center Encores! season. Pipe Dream was adapted by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II from John Steinbeck's novel "Sweet Thursday," a sequel to "Cannery Row" that was written with the hope of it becoming a musical — which it did in 1955. Leaving the critics cold, the show soon closed and legal issues prevented it from being revived, until now. The story revolves around marine biologist Doc (Will Chase); Suzy, the new girl in town (Laura Osnes); the misfits who populate the local flophouse and bordello (Tom Wopat, Stephen Wallem); and the madam (Leslie Uggams) who wants all of her girls to fall in love. Songs include "All At Once You Love Her" and "Everybody's Got a Home But Me." For more on the show, click here.
