The annual Gypsy of the Year competition, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, is known for its opening numbers. Whether they feature original songs or celebrate iconic shows and stars, they are always a highlight of the festivities. In this special compilation, Playbill looks back at the last several years of opening numbers featuring the likes of Carol Channing, Tyne Daly and Jonathan Hadary (they hosted the first Gypsy in 1989), choreography from A Chorus Line and reunions of original cast members from Grease and The Wiz. See Seth Rudetsky's favorite memories of the Gypsy of the Year competition.
