Synopsis

Spanish soldiers march into Portugal to enforce Philip II's annexation, which eventually leads to a peasant's election to mayor, in Calderon's dramatization of historical events. A reading of Pedro Calderón de la Barca's The Mayor of Zalamea, as translated by Edward Fitzgerald.
