History:
The Empire Theatre opened at 1430 Broadway at 40th Street on January 25, 1893. This theatre was so beloved by its company and patrons that at its final performance in 1948, audience members tore at the theatre for souvenirs including seat covers, plumbing pieces, and lighting fixtures. The Empire Theatre was demolished in 1953.
